Services

What kinds of projects do you take on?
We specialize in siding installation, repair, and replacement. We also build and restore decks, install windows and doors, and take on full exterior remodels. We don't generally take on roofing or interior remodels as standalone projects.
Do you work on commercial buildings?
We take on small commercial projects (storefronts, multi-unit residential, light commercial) when they fit our skill set. Large commercial work isn't our specialty, we'll be upfront if a project is outside what we do well.
Can you match existing siding on an older home?
Usually yes. We profile-match where the original product is still made, and use a combination of repair and paint for older or discontinued profiles. We'll tell you up front what's possible before starting.

Materials

What's the best siding for the Humboldt County coast?
Fiber cement is widely considered the best fit for our coastal climate. It resists moisture, salt air, fog, and fire, all major concerns on the North Coast. Engineered wood and properly sealed cedar are also strong options for specific styles.
How long does siding last?
Vinyl 20 to 40 years, fiber cement 30 to 50+ years, properly maintained wood 20 to 40 years. Lifespan depends heavily on installation quality, exposure, and maintenance. Coastal homes typically see shorter lifespans due to salt and moisture.
What brands do you install?
We work regularly with James Hardie, LP SmartSide, CertainTeed, and Cedar Valley for siding; Andersen, Milgard, and Marvin for windows; and Trex and TimberTech for composite decking. We're brand-flexible based on what's right for the project.

Process & Timing

How long does a full siding replacement take?
Most full siding replacements take 1 to 3 weeks depending on home size, material, and weather. Fiber cement runs longer because of its weight and the detail work. We provide a project timeline before starting so you know what to expect.
How quickly can you start a project?
We typically book 2 to 8 weeks out, sometimes longer in peak season (May–September). Smaller repair jobs can often fit in sooner. Call us early if you have a target timeline.
Should I replace windows and siding at the same time?
Yes, when possible. Replacing both together allows proper integration of flashing, weather barriers, and trim, which prevents future leaks. It also saves on labor since the exterior is already opened up.

Pricing & Estimates

How much does a full re-side cost?
It varies enormously by home size and material. Fiber cement and engineered wood sit at different price points. We provide a detailed line-item estimate after a site visit so you know what every dollar covers, no ballpark numbers without seeing the project.
Do you charge for estimates?
No. Site visits and estimates are free for projects in our service area.
Do you require a deposit?
Yes, on most projects. The deposit covers materials and scheduling. Larger projects are billed in milestones rather than a single lump sum at the end.

Service Area & Credentials

What areas do you serve?
All of Humboldt County, including Arcata, Eureka, McKinleyville, Fortuna, Trinidad, Bayside, Blue Lake, Ferndale, Loleta, Rio Dell, and Willow Creek. If you're in Humboldt and we haven't listed your town, call us, we probably go there too.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. NorCal Exterior is a licensed California contractor (CSLB #1103196) and carries general liability and workers' compensation insurance. We provide license and insurance verification before any contract is signed.
Will new siding improve my home's energy efficiency?
Yes, especially when paired with house wrap, insulation upgrades, or insulated siding products. Replacing old siding is also the ideal time to address air leaks and moisture barriers, which can meaningfully reduce heating costs in our cool, damp climate.
