Our approach

If the bones are good, the rest can be restored.

Plenty of decks that look ready for the dump are actually salvageable. The substructure, joists, beams, ledger, and posts, is usually the expensive part to build. If those are sound, replacing surface boards and tightening up railings can give you another 15 to 20 years for a fraction of the cost of a new deck.

We start every restoration with an honest structural assessment. If the bones are gone, we'll tell you straight and quote a rebuild. If they're good, we'll lay out a restoration scope that addresses what actually needs work and skips what doesn't.

What's included

Every deck repair & restoration project covers the full scope.

Pricing varies by project size and material, but the scope below is standard. We don't unbundle the parts that protect the house.

01

Structural assessment

Walk the deck, probe for rot at every connection point, check ledger flashing and post bases, and give you an honest opinion: restore or rebuild?

02

Board replacement

Pull and replace damaged surface boards with matching material. Sister joists where rot has affected the substructure but not destroyed it.

03

Railing rebuild

Wobbly railings are a real safety issue. We rebuild posts, replace balusters, and bring everything back to code, or fully up to current code if the original deck was grandfathered.

04

Hardware replacement

Failed fasteners, corroded post bases, and rusted hangers replaced with corrosion-resistant hardware rated for coastal exposure.

05

Refinishing

Sand, clean, and refinish wood decks with stain or sealer. For composite, we handle deep cleaning and any board-replacement matching.

06

Final walk-through

Test the railings, check every board, confirm everything's solid in every direction. Then we hand it back.

Scope
Deck Repair & Restoration
Location
Humboldt County, CA

A deck the owners assumed was headed for the dump. The substructure turned out to be sound, so we replaced the failed surface boards, rebuilt a wobbly section of railing to current code, swapped corroded hardware for coastal-rated fasteners, and refinished the whole thing. They got years more deck for a fraction of a full rebuild.

Common questions

Deck Repair & Restoration, answered.

Specific questions about your project? Send them our way.

Can my old deck be saved?
Often yes. Most failures are surface or hardware issues, not structural. We'll give you an honest assessment after walking the deck, we don't push rebuilds for decks that just need restoration.
How long does a deck restoration take?
Smaller scopes (board replacement and refinish) often take 2 to 5 days. Larger restorations involving railing rebuilds can run 1 to 2 weeks. We provide a timeline before starting.
Is my deck safe?
If the railings move when you push them, or if you see rot at the post bases or ledger, the deck has a safety issue and should be inspected. We do free assessments, call us before someone leans on a railing that doesn't hold.
Will refinishing fix water damage?
Refinishing is for surface-level wear. If you're seeing deep cracks, soft spots, or rot, the boards or substructure need to be replaced before any refinish makes sense.
