Blue Lake is east of Arcata along the Mad River, about 15 minutes from our shop. The micro-climate here is meaningfully different from the immediate coast, warmer summers, less fog, and a different set of considerations for materials and finishes.
Blue Lake's relative shelter from the marine layer means more material options perform well here than they do closer to the coast. Wood siding can be a real option with proper maintenance, and the warmer summer temperatures mean fewer mildew issues than coastal sites. The town's small-town character and mix of older and newer homes makes for varied project work.
